WHY COMMEMORATE?

A memorial can help the grieving process and provide an important focal point to visit, remember, place flowers, and is an important link for future generations.

GRANITE MEMORIALS

Granite plaques or headstones come in various colours - grey, black, green, blue pearl, red and more.  Granite memorials can have a polished smooth finish or edges can have a rough-rock look.  Artwork can be added to the stone including ceramic photos.  An advantage with granite is that an additional inscription can be added at a later date.  Granite headstones can be custom shaped or one of a number of traditional shapes.

INSCRIPTION

The most common methods of inscription are:

Incised - the letter itself is blasted into the granite with the recess then being painted.

Embossed - is the opposite, the area surrounding the letter is blasted out.

There are many styles of lettering available and examples can be provided. Some common styles are Times Roman, Arial, Garamond and Goudy Italics.

Inscriptions can be painted any colour, however white enamel or gold leaf are most commonly chosen.

Various borders can be used such as a plain line border or book design border.

All types of artwork can be added to compliment the stone; popular choices are roses, crosses and angels.

BRONZE PLAQUES

Bronze plaques are another popular choice. They are made of solid bronze with a double lacquer protection, providing years of enduring lustre.  Some designs incorporate the option of replacing a section of the plaque at a later date for a second person's inscription.  Motifs can be included.

CERAMIC PHOTOS

Ceramic photos are very durable and are a popular addition to any headstone or plaque.  They are available in different shapes and sizes and backgrounds and borders can be chosen to suit.

PERMANITE MEMORIALS

Permanite plaques are made of a high strength porcelain with a photographic image. They are extremely long lasting, and can be adhered to any granite or rock style memorial.

Permanite plaques incorporate a choice of coloured backgrounds or a coloured photo of a scene ie - a beach; farm; garden; native bush - and digitally combined with a portrait photo and chosen wording, thus creating a visually unique memorial. for examples view website.: www.permanite.net

PLAQUE

Granite or Bronze plaques are usually used as ashes memorials.

It is also quite common for families to purchase ashes plots but not inter ashes - just to mark the plot with a plaque as a focal point. Ashes may have already been scattered somewhere special to the family or placed in an urn and kept at home.

Pyes Pa Memorial Park Cemetery has several areas available for ashes plaques. There is the popular Rose Garden, Native Section or Kauri Tree Section. The plots in these areas can accommodate two sets of ashes.  Also available is an Upright Memorial section, and a Granite Book of Memory where a small bronze plaque can be afixed (but no provision for burying ashes).

New Te Puke Cemetery has a Wall of Remembrance. Some ashes can be interred in the wall and a small granite plaque placed over top.
